Trimble and Ortec join forces to offer integrated fleet management

  • The first automatic planner with real-time traffic information
  • CarCube on-board computer with tried and tested interface
  • Dijco, a new customer opting for a combination of both systems

Efficient management of the logistics chain not only calls for high-performance telematics but also for intelligent planning and optimisation software. Thanks to an in-depth partnership with Ortec Logiplan GmbH, the Trimble Transport & Logistics CarCube now offers the basis for an intelligent fleet management in real time.  This is made possible by the fact that the on-board computer sends not only the current sat nav position over an open interface, but also notifications from the driver, such as the current shipment status (loading times, waiting times at the customer or traffic jams) in order to find the best route at all times. The Dutch logistics services provider, Dijco Internationaal Transfportbedrijf, has also been won over by the advantages of this system integration and is now working with this strong IT partner for its food logistics.

What belongs together, grows together: Ortec Transport & Distribution (OTD) takes on board order and vehicle data and automatically calculates a route planning. At this point, the software has already performed a restriction test to allow for driving times and rest periods or other, individually adjusted parameters. To check the status of the calculated rounds, the CarCube from Trimble Transport & Logistics (formerly Punch Telematix) allows a fast and simple connection as well as data transfer in real time. Together with the CarCube, OTD can therefore model complete loads as well as part loads, general cargo and consolidated freight transport.

As far as route planning is concerned, for the first time, existing route information such as roadworks as well as real time congestion reports are included in the calculation. The so-called Real Traffic Congestion from OTD immediately notifies of delays to a transport through an optical warning signal and suggests an alternative. The dispatcher is therefore in a situation to react quickly and to adjust the route accordingly. “Together with our partner, we offer the infrastructure for a cost-efficient route planning and a high-performance fleet management,” says Carsten Holtrup, Managing Director of Trimble Transport & Logistics Deutschland.

Because of the high demands in the food logistics sector, the Dutch logistics service provider Dijco Internationaal Transport is now looking at IT support for cost-efficient route planning. Fresh food must not only be delivered quickly but also fit in with the narrow time windows of the large food distributors. In order to be in a position to guarantee this complex distribution of fruit, vegetables and mushrooms for the Dutch wholesaler, The Greenery, Dijco has now opted for the CarCube in conjunction with Ortec.

The Ortec Logiplan Senior Sales Manager, Jan Harmstorf, underlines the advantages of his system: “In cases where several routes must be completed under time pressure and under ever-changing conditions, our virtual control room facilitates the work of the dispatcher. “Over the past few years, big-name clients such as the Dutch logistics service provider G. Snel have already opted for greater efficiency thanks to the integration of CarCube and OTD.”
