XPO Logistics Europe Selects Trimble’s Telematics Solutions for Part of its European Fleet

Telematics solutions from Trimble will equip part of XPO Logistics’ European fleet, following a successful pilot program in a hundred vehicles from XPO Logistics’ bulk business fleet in 2016. This pilot program allowed Trimble to demonstrate its ability to deliver high-quality solutions that are innovative, versatile and reliable as well as provide efficient service on a European scale.

XPO Logistics is a top ten global supply chain provider operating the largest truck fleet in Europe with more than 8,000 owned trucks. XPO has been investing in technology to meet a variety of needs such as productivity optimization and traceability for customers. With an annual budget of approximately $425 million, XPO places significant emphasis on innovation to deliver world-class service for its customers.

Four packages

In order to meet XPO Logistics’ requirements for its full truckload activities in Europe, Trimble solutions were structured in four different packages:  a Truck4U screenless on-board computer; a Truck4U screenless on-board computer and a FleetXPS Android tablet with resistive 8-inch touchscreen display; a Truck4U screenless on-board computer and FleetXPS Android tablet including a document scanner; and a FleetXPS App for Android Smartphones.

Open architecture

Trimble also provided its expertise in managing the integration of its Truck4U screenless on-board computers with XPO’s overall IT infrastructure and existing Track & Trace tools dedicated to transport. Trimble’s consultants and technical teams helped XPO’s IT engineers to interface their business-specific applications with Trimble’s SaaS-based FleetWorks and FleetCockpit back-office platforms for fleet administration and dispatch applications by using Trimble’s open architecture and Web Service links. In addition, data generated by existing embedded computing solutions at XPO were integrated into the Trimble portal, ensuring continuity for XPO users in a single environment pending the gradual renewal of the entire fleet.
