Trimble Introduces Android-based FleetXPS Tablet for Transport and Logistics

Trimble introduced today its Android-based FleetXPS mobile on-board tablet for transportation and logistics. With the introduction, Trimble is responding to the growing customer demand for an open platform that is managed by Trimble. The new FleetXPS tablet provides customers an extremely user-friendly fleet management solution with the advantages of a flexible Android platform and replaces the Linux-based FleetXPS on-board computer. In addition to the tablet, Trimble also introduced the next generation user interface for the FleetXPS App, an Android application that enables drivers to perform logistic tasks and activities from their tablets.

Professional and Flexible

The FleetXPS tablet provides customers with a reliable and flexible fleet management solution. Trimble provides certified and tested third-party apps which the customer can choose. The tablets are managed by Trimble, which includes support for Trimble apps and updates, maintenance and repairs for the tablets. In addition with the Android tablet, it’s easy to give drivers access to other apps for both professional and personal use without compromising the fleet management functionality.

“Our previous version of the FleetXPS App was already compatible with mobile phones, but it appeared that many customers needed additional support as well as a fully managed solution by Trimble. The Android tablet allays these concerns. In consultation with Trimble, customers can choose the apps to be installed on their tablets and we manage them. Settings are protected to prevent drivers from removing or adding apps," said Michel Van Maercke, general manager, Trimble Transport & Logistics, EMEA and Pacific Asia.

Trimble also provides enhanced support through a remote diagnostic function that provides continuous updates for the device.

"Trimble's Open Telematics Framework (OTF) allows efficient updates without manual intervention. Thanks to this wide support, we remain a one stop shop for our customers while at the same time we offer much more flexibility," said Van Maercke.

New Look and Feel

In addition to the new tablet, the user interface of the FleetXPS App was also improved. It is easier to use with an attractive look and feel, and a configuration for use on the FleetXPS tablet.

"The clear visual display and the new layout create an intuitive and modern user experience for the drivers," said Van Maercke.

Towards a Future-Oriented Organization

The new FleetXPS tablet is available in Europe and Australia. The tablet features a 7.85 inch, anti-glare touch screen, a camera, an optional 1D and 2D barcode scanner, a RFID & NFC reader, GPS and a variety of wireless connectivity options such as WLAN, Bluetooth and 3G.

The tablet is IP65 certified at a drop height of 1.2 meter and its battery typically lasts an 8-hour work day.

"This makes the tablet ideal for all pick-up and delivery activities such as retail or Less than Truckload (LTL) applications, which require proof of delivery. But we also notice a marked increase in the demand for mobile applications in other segments too. With the new FleetXPS Android tablet, we can support our customers in their evolution towards a future-oriented organization," said Van Maercke.
