'On-board computers give excellent insights into tours, stops and shipments'. Van Reenen installs CarCubes in Boekhout Distributie trucks after takeover.
Van Reenen of Barneveld has equipped trucks acquired in its takeover of Boekhout Distributie with the Trimble CarCube. The installation of the on-board computers in dozens of lorries marks the end of an extremely busy period. The logistics service provider has integrated Boekhout's activities as effectively as possible into its own ongoing processes.
It should come as no surprise that Van Reenen has installed the CarCube in Boekhout Distributie's vehicles. According to Director Aart Hooijer, the purchase of the on-board computers for the company's own vehicles has already transformed the business. Says Hooijer: "We used the data the CarCubes supplied to streamline the other planning activities".
Technology delivers operational insights
The selection process was an intensive project. First, a number of suppliers were placed on a long-list, then a short-list was drawn up. Hooijer tells us: "Trimble Transport & Logistics had the best technology". Project manager Jan Van de Geer adds: "The CarCube supplied us with data we didn't previously have. It suddenly made the 30,000 tours, 300,000 stops and 14,000,000 kilometres a year for a total of around 200,000 shipments very easy to understand".
Up to ten percent savings on administration
The CarCubes were installed step by step. Van Reenen did the work itself. The insight it gained into its own transport data led to installation sooner than originally planned. Thanks to the on-board computers, planners have information about disruptions at the shipment level, among other things. Van de Geer can perform analyses himself that show which addresses cause the most disruptions. "That enables us to act and, if necessary, make appropriate changes". Increased transparency has led to a drop in workload and telephone traffic for the planning department. According to Van de Geer: "I think that can easily save ten percent of their time".
After CarCubes came TMS
Following its decision on the CarCube on-board computers, Van Reenen also opted for a new Transport Management System (TMS): Transpas Enterprise from Art Systems. The logistics services provider from Barneveld paid close attention to the connectivity and stability of the interface between the two systems here. It chose Art Systems partly because of this supplier's commitment to service.
